We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Controller to join our leadership team. In this pivotal role, you will oversee all accounting policies, practices, and day-to-day financial operations. You will serve as a strategic partner to leadership—driving process improvements, shaping financial insights, and presenting clear, compelling analysis to the Executive Team and Board.

Salary Range: $130,000–$149,500 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

Work Style: Hybrid—three days per week onsite.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and oversee successful accounting policies and practices
  • Lead process improvement efforts that streamline and automate operations
  • Train and mentor finance staff to function as collaborative, trusted advisors
  • Analyze financial data and deliver timely, accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual reports
  • Present financial statements and updates to senior leadership with clarity and insight
  • Manage audit processes and ensure compliance
  • Oversee multi-entity consolidations, closings, and specialized reporting
  • Lead cash management and forecasting efforts
  • Develop strategic single and multi-year business plans aligned with organizational goals
  • Evaluate potential mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures with financial analysis
  • Partner closely with internal teams, including Asset Management, Budgets, and Compliance
  • Build strong cross-departmental relationships to support organizational success
  • Alert leadership to financial risks or issues that may impact funding or compliance
  • Stay current with accounting standards and best practices

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Ensure effective onboarding and training for new team members
  • Provide timely performance feedback and identify development opportunities
  • Execute hiring processes efficiently and thoughtfully
  • Mentor supervisory-level staff to ensure strong, consistent team leadership
  • Oversee both direct and indirect reports, including accountants, specialists, clerks, and temporary staff

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (Accounting concentration required)
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive mid-to-management level accounting or fiscal management experience 
  • CPA designation strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with nonprofit government and reporting requirements
  • Experience in property management or real estate development accounting is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly advanced Excel
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to present complex financial concepts to diverse audiences
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Skilled at prioritizing and thriving in a fast paced, detail oriented environment
  • Comfortable interacting with stakeholders such as auditors, financial institutions, investors, and board members
