Mold Tech

The Mold Technician is responsible for ensuring the day-to-day functionality of production machinery by monitoring machine operations, troubleshooting problems, performing minor repairs on production and auxiliary equipment, such as grinders, etc., ensuring proper documentation of work orders and communicating to Shift Supervisor and Maintenance staff on any issues with equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
 

  • Monitor molding machines and auxiliary equipment to ensure operating properly.
  • Troubleshoot problems by diagnosing cause, making minor repairs, and cleaning mold and/or platens as necessary to prevent quality issues.
  • Adjust controls and/or machine settings as required to maintain optimum operation and quality of parts. 
  • Perform machine start up and shut down as needed to meet production schedule.
  • Perform preventative maintenance activities as scheduled or required. 
  • Use correct measures to return machines and equipment to their manufacturing operational condition within a reasonable amount of time, including being able to troubleshoot and repair from OEM schematics.
  • Oversee, follow and enforce all safety practices and quality standards.
  • Prepare and submit work orders for Maintenance department to address more major issues or problems. 
  • Interact daily with Shift Supervisor, Cell Leaders and Packers to stay informed of any operational concerns and production needs.
  • Act as backup to Shift Supervisor when necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MIMIMUM EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED:
 

  • High school diploma (or GED equivalent) plus two years of manufacturing experience, or similar combination of education and work experience.
  • Excellent problem solving, organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills required.
  • Must have good attention to detail and be able to multi-task in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure with time sensitive matters and respond quickly to get machinery back to working condition.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, and follow verbal and/or written instructions.
  • Good mechanical skills, ability to read schematics, and prior experience with production machinery. 
  • Knowledge of injection molding machines and basic processing very helpful. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate using the basic English language.
  • Basic computer skills (Word/Outlook) and knowledge of ERP software.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment is typical of clean manufacturing using robotic systems, and that of a working warehouse due to the use of material handling equipment.  Noise level is consistent with system alarms, machines operating and overhead announcements.  Occasional smell of and/or smoke from hot plastic and exposure to moving mechanical parts.  Work is usually performed while standing, stooping, kneeling or crouching, often in small or tight spaces, a high percentage of the workday and requires physical stamina.  Must be able to bend, lift and stack materials up to 70 pounds.  Work requires visual effort of significant duration to view small mechanical parts and quality defects.

Supervisor  is responsible for coordinating the various daily production functions in the Molding department, overseeing all staff in the department on their shift and assisting with resolving any issues (mechanical, staffing, quality) in order to meet production schedules.  This is a salaried position with a bonus program for weekend overtime work.
The functions listed below are representative of the essential duties required of the Molding Shift Supervisor:
Assign machines to Packers and Cell Leaders daily.
Run machines to follow production schedule, including planning for alternates, and advise floor personnel of any upcoming changes in material, color etc.
Make necessary adjustments to machines and auxiliary equipment to maintain optimum production and meet quality requirements.
Oversee and enforce safety and quality standards.
Perform minor equipment repairs in partnership with Mold Technician and communicate regularly with maintenance and tooling departments on mechanical issues.
Responsible for all shift documentation, daily logs and reporting on production performance.
Monitor time and attendance for assigned personnel and approve vacation/time off requests.
Manage shift personnel work activities to ensure that all responsibilities are met and address any performance issues, working with HR department as needed.
Routinely interact with other Managers and departments for production planning and staffing needs.
