MIG Welder/Fabrication Technician
South Phoenix, AZ
We are seeking a skilled MIG Welder / Fabrication Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will perform welding, fabrication, and metal assembly tasks on components and systems used in water trucks, tank assemblies, truck bodies, and related heavy equipment. This role requires experience with MIG welding, press brake operation, and other metalworking tools to build and repair high-quality parts while adhering to safety and quality standards.
MIG weld various steel and aluminum components, including frames, plates, piping, brackets, and structural members
Read and interpret welding blueprints, fabrication drawings, and schematics
Measure, lay out, cut, and prepare metal workpieces using saws, grinders, shears, press brakes, and other equipment
Operate press brakes to bend, form, and shape metal to required specifications
Fit, tack, and align parts before final welding to maintain dimensional accuracy
Perform weld repairs, grinding, blending, and finishing work
Inspect welds for quality and adherence to specifications
Maintain welding equipment (replace tips, wire, gas, and consumables) and make adjustments as needed
Assist in fabrication of assemblies and subassemblies, including fixture setup
Collaborate with production, quality control, and engineering teams to resolve issues and improve processes
Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas
Comply with all safety protocols, including use of PPE and proper handling of gases and welding consumables
Proven experience in MIG welding (steel and aluminum)
Experience operating press brakes for bending and forming metal
Ability to read blueprints, welding symbols, and fabrication drawings
Strong skills in hand and power tool operation (grinders, drills, saws, measuring tools, etc.)
Basic metal prep skills: cutting, grinding, cleaning, fit-up
Knowledge of welding quality standards and defect detection
Comfortable handling moderate to heavy materials and performing repetitive tasks
Ability to work in a team setting and follow instructions
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Good communication skills
Certification in welding (e.g., AWS, CWB)
Experience in heavy equipment or truck/tank fabrication
Experience with structural welding, pipe welding, or high-strength steel
Experience using robotic or semi-automated welding systems
Knowledge of material types (stainless, galvanized, alloy steels)
Basic layout and fabrication skills (bending, forming, jig setup)
