Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Schedule subject to change)

 

Our client is seeking a Central Plant Operator for the Tempe Central Plant. This position is to assist in the monitoring, operating, repairing and perform preventative maintenance on boilers and/or chillers and related equipment.  This Central Plant is a 24/7 operating facility.
 

Responsibilities of the Central Plant Operator:

  • Monitor gauges, meters, pressure, and temperature indicators to verify operating conditions of automatically fired boilers, chillers, compressors, motors, turbines, and other related equipment.
  • Prepare logs, charts, and reports of operating conditions.
  • Clean, paint, lubricate, service, and perform minor maintenance adjustments to ensure safe and efficient operation of central plant equipment.
  • Conduct chemical analysis of water samples and adjust chemical levels to protect equipment.
  • Operate data center and computer systems to verify specified operating conditions across university facilities; initiate corrective actions during trouble or emergency situations.
  • Perform maintenance, disassembly, assembly, repair, and cleaning of boilers, chillers, and related equipment.
  • Apply safety standards and maintain good housekeeping practices to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Report safety concerns and equipment issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Communicate effectively and clearly to perform essential job functions.

Qualifications and Requirements for the Central Plant Operator

  • Three (3) years of experience in the operation of boiler and/or chiller equipment and related systems;
    OR any equivalent combination of education and experience providing comparable knowledge and abilities.

  • Experience using:
    • Hand tools of the trade
    • DCS workstations or equivalent systems
    • Microsoft Word and Excel for trend analysis and reporting
    • Monitoring, operating, and maintaining boilers/chillers, including large (>1000 ton) centrifugal chillers
  • Knowledge of:
    • Boiler and chiller operations and maintenance
    • Refrigeration cycle and its application to large centrifugal chillers
    • High-volume steam boiler systems and integrated heating/cooling plant operations
    • Thermal energy storage systems and sustainability practices for large campus systems
  • Certifications:
    • EPA / CFC Certification (required)
    • Chlorofluorocarbon Certification (may be required upon employment)
    • Valid Arizona driver’s license (may be required)
