Overview
A precision metal manufacturing company is seeking a CNC Programmer / Tool Designer to support tool engineering and machining operations. This role focuses on developing CNC programs (3-axis and 5-axis), assisting in tool design for new product introductions, and ensuring production quality and cost efficiency. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver with strong technical skills in CNC programming, CAD modeling, and tool design for metal forming applications.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and optimize CNC programs for machining tools, dies, fixtures, and gages.
Assist with the design and development of new tooling for product launches.
Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and manufacturing data to resolve design and production challenges.
Apply GD&T principles and geometric formulas to ensure precise tool configurations.
Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering and production to improve manufacturability and reduce costs.
Utilize standard vendor tooling components and SolidWorks (or similar CAD software) for tool design.
Manage multiple tooling projects simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and timelines.
Support rapid tool prototyping and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or completion of a certified journeyman toolmaker program.
Minimum 5 years of experience in CNC programming and tool design (sheet metal experience preferred).
Proficiency in GibbsCAM for 3-axis and 5-axis CNC mills.
Strong understanding of SolidWorks or similar CAD software, as well as Microsoft Office.
Solid foundation in geometry, trigonometry, and mathematical applications for tooling and manufacturing.
Skilled in blueprint reading, inspection techniques, and the use of measuring tools (calipers, dial indicators, etc.).
Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management abilities.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform standard physical tasks such as standing, walking, kneeling, and reaching.
Manual dexterity and close vision required for handling small precision components.
Work is primarily performed in an office setting with limited time spent on the production floor for review and coordination.
Salary: $100-$115k/year plus bonus
