Dispatcher / Transportation Coordinator  office Environment — Job Description (Northeast Maryland)

Job Title: Dispatcher (Building Materials / Fleet)
Location: Northeast Maryland
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–3:00 PM
Pay Rate: $16–$18/hour (based on experience)
Type: [Temp / Temp-to-Hire / Direct Hire]

Purpose

Assign vehicles and drivers for the delivery and conveyance of building materials, ensuring efficient routing, accurate documentation, and responsive communication with drivers and customers.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Compile and maintain a list of available vehicles and driver availability
• Assign vehicles based on trip length, purpose, freight requirements, and delivery needs
• Assign pick orders to lift operators to be pulled from inventory
• Issue keys, record sheets, and credentials to drivers
• Record time of departure, destination, cargo, and expected time of return
• Investigate overdue vehicles and follow up as needed
• Direct driver activities using two-way radio/phone communication
• Confer with customers to expedite or locate missing, misrouted, delayed, or damaged merchandise
• Maintain records of mileage, fuel usage, repairs made, and other expenses
• Establish and adjust service/delivery routes to improve efficiency
• Assign helpers to drivers as needed
• Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

• None

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required
• 6 months to 1 year related dispatch/logistics/transportation/warehouse experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

Skills / Competencies

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret procedures and basic regulations
• Ability to write basic business correspondence
• Ability to present information and respond to questions from employees, customers, and management
• Basic math skills (whole numbers, fractions, decimals)
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to follow written/oral instructions

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with dispatch/routing or transportation coordination (any dispatch software a plus)
• Familiarity with delivery routes in the Northeast Maryland area
• Knowledge of warehouse coordination (communicating with lift operators, staging orders)
• Strong customer service and ability to stay calm in time-sensitive situations
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

Work Environment / Physical Activity

• Primarily seated; occasional standing/walking
• Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes/airborne particles, and outdoor weather conditions
• Moderate noise level
