Summary:
Under minimum supervision, the Layup Operator is responsible for the hand layup of advanced composite materials on designated tooling per specific work instructions, travelers, and/or
customer specifications. Tasks included in this position are tooling fabrication, tool prep for lay-up, hand lay-up of pre-preg composite material using a variety of techniques and processes, vacuum bagging, precision trimming ng and layup techniques.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Measures, marks, and scribes’ dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
· Selects and aligns materials on CNC ply cutter.
· Validate and document material usage after program completion.
· Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, depth, and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
· Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
· Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
· Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
· Fits and assembles parts into complete kits.
· Organizes and stores kits. Works for short period of time in sub-zero freezer storage.
· Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch of part or product to be fabricated.
· Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
