Fiber Optic Assembly Technician

Pay: Starting at $18.00/hour+
Shifts: 1st 6am to 2pm or 7am to 3pm and 2nd 3pm to 11pm or 3:30pm to 11:30pm shift available
Schedule: Flexible start and end times Monday to Friday 
Hours: Work 37.5 hours and receive pay for 40 hours
Interview: Required
ITAR: Position is subject to ITAR requirements
English: Basic English is acceptable

Purpose of the Position

Responsible for assembling basic, entry-level fiber optic products according to customer and company specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize job travelers to obtain raw materials, blueprints, and job numbers for reference.
  • Perform data entry as required.
  • Assemble basic engineered products at a low production rate.
  • Visually measure fiber optic material to ensure proper size and fit.
  • Use epoxy resins to adhere fibers to ends and fittings.
  • Handle and transport fiber from drums through potting, grinding, and polishing stations, as well as to packing and shipping areas.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Follow all company safety and health guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors and management.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Ability to read and follow written instructions.
  • Basic computer and data-entry skills.
  • Ability to measure using rulers and measuring tapes.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools and equipment, including razor blades, calipers, heat guns, soldering irons, and other measuring devices.
  • Ability to work effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and management.
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to use both hands for handling, grasping, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to occasionally walk, bend, and twist.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. occasionally.
  • Requires close vision for detailed assembly work.

Working Environment & Job Hazards

The position is performed in a production environment with exposure to fine fiber optic materials, which may cause cuts, abrasions, or sharp shards if damaged or cut. Employees may also occasionally work with razor blades and regularly use keyboards for data entry. The role may involve exposure to bright lights and substances such as epoxy resin and alcohol, which may cause skin irritation.

Must be willing to interview and work in a hands-on production environment.
