Position: Field Technician (Building Automation / Controls)
Location: Phoenix/Tempe, AZ (valley-wide travel to job sites)
Type: Temp-to-Hire
Schedule: Full-time (40 hrs/week); flexible hours with overtime as projects require
Pay: $25-$29/ hr


Job Overview

We’re hiring a Field Technician to support commercial building automation and controls projects. This is a great opportunity for someone who learns quickly, takes pride in quality work, and wants long-term growth in the building controls industry. Paid on-the-job training provided.


What You’ll Do

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot:
    • Sensors, controllers, actuators
    • Low-voltage wiring and related components
    • Building automation control and data collection systems
  • Work independently and as part of a team to complete field installations and service calls
  • Document work performed and communicate status updates clearly and consistently
  • Follow safety and quality standards on every job site

Required Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical aptitude; comfortable using basic hand tools
  • Ability to follow OSHA safety practices and maintain clean, organized work areas
  • Self-starter mindset with the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to work at a steady pace without compromising safety or quality
  • Comfortable working around loud environments, hazardous machinery, chemicals, and gases (as applicable)
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments (including outdoor elements/weather)
  • Ability to safely work:
    • In confined spaces (stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling)
    • At elevations (ladders, scaffolding, man lifts, roofs, platforms)

Preferred (Not Required)

  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, cut sheets, and installation manuals
  • Familiarity with HVAC concepts/operation
  • Comfort with basic computer/embedded systems (Windows/Android/Linux)
  • Experience using diagnostic tools (multimeters, oscilloscopes, anemometers, manometers, wire toners, etc.)
  • Exposure to:
    • PLC ladder logic / block programming
    • BACnet, LonWorks, Modbus networks (TCP/IP and MSTP)

Basic Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Arizona Driver’s License (minimum 12 months) with a clean driving record (no major/frequent violations or accidents)
  • Reliable transportation to and from job sites valley-wide
  • Flexibility for overtime, standby/on-call, holidays as needed
  • Basic Microsoft computer skills (mouse/keyboard/printer)
  • Ability to pass a post-offer drug screen and background check
