Job Summary
In this role, you will be responsible for the accurate and efficient handling of all incoming and outgoing freight. You will verify shipments, manage inventory records, coordinate with stakeholders, and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Receiving:

  • Inspection: Inspect incoming freight and packages for defects or damage; notify supervision promptly and accurately record any discrepancies.
  • Verification: Verify all details of incoming materials by comparing packing slips with receivers, recording shortages and discrepancies, and alerting management regarding any issues.
  • Organization: Accurately identify, label, and organize products upon receipt. Tag, stage, and palletize raw materials in designated areas (e.g., specific zones based on material type).

Shipping:

  • Order Accuracy: Check items to be shipped against job or pull tickets to ensure accuracy and completeness of destinations and routing.
  • Documentation: Prepare accurate shipping documents (e.g., Bill of Lading, Packing Lists) using standard templates. Review truck/trailer contents against shipment documents prior to departure.
  • Coordination: Coordinate outbound freight, including obtaining rate quotes when necessary. Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure on-time deliveries.
  • Carrier Management: Trace lost shipments and respond to customer claims by initiating proof of delivery documents.

Inventory Control:

  • Record Keeping: Record all required activities in the management information system (MIS) for accurate recordkeeping and filing.
  • Physical Counts: Assist with conducting physical inventories, including cycle counts and full physical counts for the facility.
  • Reconciliation: Identify and reconcile stock inventory discrepancies, reporting findings to supervision.

Material Handling & Safety:

  • Loading/Unloading: Operate company-provided equipment to safely load and unload raw materials and finished goods from trucks.
  • Housekeeping: Observe established safe working and housekeeping procedures; promptly correct or report hazardous situations.
  • Compliance: Follow all company policies, security protocols, standard operating procedures, work instructions, and ISO requirements.

General Duties:

  • Communication: Maintain clear communication with internal teams and external partners regarding shipment status and issues.
  • Other Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Qualifications
Education & Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant warehouse or shipping/receiving experience required.

Essential Skills & Abilities:

  • Technical Proficiency: Effective proficiency with computers, including experience with email, intranet, and management information systems (MIS). Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) preferred.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in documentation, inventory counts, and shipment verification.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, with team members, supervisors, and external partners.
  • Numeracy: Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comprehension: Ability to read and understand all signage, labels, and documents associated with job functions.
