Job Title: Industrial Maintenance Mechanic

Location: Shrewsbury, MA and Putnam, CT

Job Type: Full-time, Direct Hire

Pay: $27.00 – $32.00 per hour

Schedule: 12-hour shifts, 2 days on / 2 days off, with rotating weekends. Overtime definitely available.

Job Overview:

Our client is hiring Industrial Maintenance Mechanics for direct-hire opportunities in Shrewsbury, MA and Putnam, CT.

This role is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, inspecting, cleaning, repairing, and maintaining plant equipment and related systems in a safe, professional, and environmentally compliant manner.

This is a hands-on maintenance role in a heavy industrial recycling and material recovery environment. The right candidate will have strong mechanical troubleshooting skills, arc/stick welding experience, and the ability to work safely around conveyors, motors, bearings, mobile equipment, and other plant systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, maintain, and repair on-site plant equipment and related systems.

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repair work on conveyor systems, motors, bearings, and other mechanical equipment.

  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues and complete repairs safely and efficiently.

  • Perform arc/stick welding and minor electrical troubleshooting as needed.

  • Use hand tools, power tools, mechanical fasteners, and blueprints to complete maintenance work.

  • Complete work orders, maintenance logs, parts requisitions, and other required documentation.

  • Help prepare for scheduled shutdown days and maintenance projects.

  • Operate or assist with mobile equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, and front-end loaders as needed.

  • Support plant operations when required.

  • Identify improvement opportunities and take proactive steps to address equipment or maintenance concerns.

  • Follow all company safety rules, policies, procedures, and applicable federal and state regulations.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of mechanical maintenance experience or equivalent technical training.

  • Arc welding or stick welding experience required.

  • Experience maintaining or repairing conveyor systems strongly preferred.

  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair ability.

  • Experience with motors, bearings, gearboxes, mechanical fasteners, hand tools, and power tools.

  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts on a 2 days on / 2 days off schedule with rotating weekends.

  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.

  • Ability to work safely in a heavy industrial plant environment.

  • Comfortable working in a dirty, dusty, loud, and physically demanding environment.

  • Ability to commute reliably to Shrewsbury, MA or Putnam, CT.

Preferred Experience:

  • Conveyor system repair or maintenance experience.

  • Experience with motors, bearings, gearboxes, screening systems, or similar plant equipment.

  • Minor electrical troubleshooting experience.

  • Forklift, skid steer, front-end loader, or other mobile equipment experience.

  • 1C/2A hoisting license preferred, but not required.

  • Experience in recycling, waste processing, quarry, asphalt, aggregate, construction, demolition, manufacturing, or other heavy industrial environments.
