The Terminal Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient day-to-day operation of the Nashville terminal, including barge unloading, truck loading, equipment maintenance, and facility coordination. This role ensures high levels of customer service, accurate product handling and documentation, and strict adherence to all safety policies and operational procedures.

The Terminal Operator works under the general supervision of the Terminal Manager and follows all policies, procedures, and directives. A core responsibility of this role is ensuring the safety of all personnel, equipment, and activities on site.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily terminal operations, including barge unloading and truck loading activities.
  • Ensure all site activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with established safety regulations and procedures.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and general mechanical upkeep.
  • Maintain terminal housekeeping and facility organization.
  • Coordinate terminal activities with management, personnel, and contractors.
  • Maintain accurate Bills of Lading and inventory documentation using dispatch computer systems.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with customers regarding loading, inventory, and scheduling activities.
  • Immediately report and assist in the investigation of all safety incidents or concerns.
  • Participate in required safety and operational training programs.
  • Notify management of any customer complaints related to product quality or service.
  • Support other operational tasks and projects as directed by management.

Safety Responsibilities

  • Promote and maintain a safe work environment at all times.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify hazards and take corrective action when necessary.
  • Ensure safe work practices for all personnel and contractors on site.

Qualifications and Experience
Required:

  • Mechanical aptitude and basic maintenance/troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including data entry and documentation.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including overtime as needed.
  • Reliable transportation and consistent attendance.

Preferred:

  • Maintenance experience in industrial, construction, ready-mix concrete, cement, or similar heavy industry environments.
  • Electrical maintenance experience.
  • Experience with bulk material handling, barge, or terminal operations.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and access confined or elevated areas.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
