Job Summary

Columbia Tech is seeking an experienced Test Technician II to join our manufacturing team.

This position is responsible for testing, troubleshooting, diagnosing, and supporting a variety of electrical, electronic, mechanical, and electro-mechanical products and assemblies in a large-scale manufacturing environment.

The Test Technician II will work with products including PCBAs, electrical assemblies, electro-mechanical systems, subassemblies, fixtures, power control panels, and finished equipment. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on troubleshooting skills and be comfortable diagnosing failures down to the component level using electronic and mechanical test equipment.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technician who enjoys hands-on troubleshooting, electronics testing, problem solving, and working with complex manufactured equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Test electrical, electronic, mechanical, and electro-mechanical assemblies, subassemblies, and finished products.

  • Perform functional testing and troubleshooting of PCBAs and electronic assemblies.

  • Diagnose equipment and product failures to the component level.

  • Follow established test procedures, specifications, technical manuals, schematics, drawings, and verbal instructions.

  • Use electronic test equipment including:

    • Oscilloscopes

    • Signal generators

    • Multimeters

    • Input/output test devices

    • Additional electronic diagnostic equipment

  • Troubleshoot and test power control panels and electrical systems.

  • Work with electrical systems including 110/115 VAC and 208/480 VAC three-phase power.

  • Interpret diagnostic information and determine potential causes of product or system failures.

  • Perform troubleshooting and repair of electro-mechanical products.

  • Document, compile, and accurately record test results.

  • Identify technical problems and communicate findings with supervisors, engineers, and manufacturing personnel.

  • Redline existing test procedures when changes or corrections are required.

  • Assist with developing and writing new test procedures.

  • Support product safety testing and requirements involving organizations such as UL and Intertek.

  • Perform precision assembly, soldering, rework, and repair when required.

  • Train and assist other Test Technicians and manufacturing personnel.

  • Maintain high standards for workmanship, safety, quality, and documentation.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Technical School diploma or related technical training strongly preferred.

  • Associate Degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electro-Mechanical Technology, or a related technical field preferred.

  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience testing and troubleshooting electronic or electro-mechanical systems, PCBAs, assemblies, or equipment.

  • Strong experience using electronic test equipment such as:

    • Oscilloscopes

    • Signal generators

    • Digital multimeters

    • Input/output electronic test devices

  • Ability to read and interpret:

    • Electrical schematics

    • Wiring diagrams

    • Technical drawings

    • Test procedures

    • Specifications

    • Diagnostic data

  • Experience troubleshooting electronic systems to the component level.

  • Experience testing or troubleshooting PCBAs.

  • Experience working with electrical power panels and systems using 110/115 VAC and 208/480 VAC three-phase power.

  • Experience with precision assembly, fine-pitch soldering, rework, and repair.

  • Working knowledge of electronic workmanship and inspection standards including:

    • J-STD-001

    • IPC-A-610

  • Experience working in a cleanroom environment and understanding standard cleanroom protocols.

  • Basic understanding of optics, optical assembly, and optical testing.

  • Familiarity with product safety testing and certification requirements such as UL and Intertek.

  • Ability to modify/redline existing test procedures and assist with writing new procedures.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and other technical teams.
