We are currently looking for a Yard Jockey, to fill a full-time, temp to perm position for FIRST shift with a company in Hanahan, SC. Ideal candidates will have at least 3 years of Yard Jockey and Forklift experience.
Job Purpose:
Serve in a key role by performing a wide range of warehouse functions, including the safe and efficient operation of forklifts, inventory management, order picking, material handling, and shipping and receiving activities. This role supports smooth warehouse operations and ensures the timely loading and unloading of customer products. The position will also include responsibilities as a Yard Truck Operator when business needs require. The Yard Truck Operator safely and accurately moves trailers to and from dock doors per instructions from the Supervisor and office staff. This role is responsible for maintaining the organization, cleanliness, and safety of yard and dock areas, as well as ensuring all seals and paperwork are properly handled and processed in accordance with our client's procedures.
Responsibilities:
Operate various types of forklifts, including reach trucks, clamp trucks, standard forklifts.
• Safely load and unload materials from trucks and storage areas according to customer’s requirements.
• Transport materials throughout the warehouse using forklifts and other heavy equipment.
• Assist with shipping and receiving tasks, including checking inventory and verifying orders.
• Collaborate with Warehouse Supervisors to ensure efficient warehouse operations.
• Organize customer products by type, lot number, or other required classifications.
• Perform routine maintenance checks on forklifts and report any issues or malfunctions.
• Operate yard lifts and yard trucks in a safe and efficient manner.
• Conduct accurate and timely yard checks at designated times.
• Set dock for the following day at the end of each shift in accordance with required prioritization.
• Prioritize BTC drivers by communicating prior to arrival, facilitating doubles when possible, and verifying empty containers are clean with doors properly secured.
• Proactively notify management of all work not expected to be completed within assigned time expectation so corrective action can be taken.
• Accurately complete and submit all required documentation for each load and end-of-day reporting, including but not limited to container activity logs, receiving documents, and photos for export crate deliveries.
• Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area free of OSHA violations, including but not limited to assigned truck and apron area.
• Efficiently coordinate traffic in the yard when necessary.
• Proactively notify management when company property or equipment needs repair or the condition is deteriorating abnormally.
• Develop and build professional relationships with customers.
Requirements:
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 1+ years of warehouse related experience with a successful track record of safety and accuracy.
• Forklift operator certified with proficient skill in the safe operation of forklifts, yard lifts, and yard trucks.
• Current valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Familiarity with warehouse management systems and processes
• Ability to accurately read, understand and interpret work orders and shipping documentation.
• Strong knowledge of materials handling techniques and best practices.
• Proficient in order picking and inventory management procedures.
• Ability to load, unload and move materials while ensuring balance and stability.
• Familiarity with inventory control processes and systems.
• Strong focus on accuracy when handling products and completing paperwork.
• Computer and tablet proficiency, including the ability to use cameras to document cargo conditions.
• Strong business math skills.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues quickly.
• Possess effective communication skills.
• Friendly, cheerful, “can-do” demeanor.
• Excellent organizational, task and time management skills.
• Able to build strong relationships with intra-company employees and drivers.
• Able to multi-task and manage multiple priorities.
• Adaptable to shifting priorities and working effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Flexibility to work weekends on an as needed basis.
• Maintain a positive attitude and an appropriate level of teamwork and cooperation with both office and operations employees.
