Industrial Field Service Manager – Mechanical & Piping

Location: Trenton, NJ
Pay: $100,000-$120,000 per year
Job Type: Full-time, direct hire
Work Setting: In person, with regular client and jobsite visits

We are hiring an experienced Industrial Field Service Manager to lead the overall performance of an industrial mechanical services department.

This position will oversee estimating, project execution, field operations, safety, staffing, training, customer relationships, and financial performance. The department supports industrial mechanical, millwright, process piping, welding, fabrication, plant maintenance, rigging, and equipment installation work.

This is a senior operational leadership position for someone who combines strong field and technical knowledge with experience managing people, projects, customers, and departmental financial results.

Responsibilities

  • Lead estimators, project managers, field superintendents, foremen, administrative staff, and field personnel.

  • Manage departmental revenue, gross profit, labor productivity, forecasting, backlog, efficiency, and utilization.

  • Prepare and review bids for moderate-to-large industrial projects.

  • Evaluate project estimates for technical requirements, operational risk, cost, and profitability.

  • Monitor project cost performance and address cost overruns as soon as they are identified.

  • Participate in root-cause reviews and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring issues.

  • Ensure field crews follow current safety systems, procedures, and training requirements.

  • Audit jobsites, trailers, trucks, storage areas, and field operations for safety, quality, housekeeping, and organization.

  • Oversee employee development, apprenticeship programs, technical training, and other departmental training initiatives.

  • Meet regularly with customers and visit project sites to review safety, quality, progress, and customer satisfaction.

  • Support department growth, bid volume, long-term planning, and coordination with other service departments.

Qualifications

  • Previous supervisory or management experience within industrial field service, industrial construction, mechanical contracting, plant maintenance, or a related environment.

  • Experience may include work as a trade service representative, project engineer, project manager, operations manager, department manager, superintendent, or comparable position.

  • Journeyman-level knowledge in a trade relevant to industrial mechanical field services, or comparable technical education and practical experience.

  • Working knowledge of several of the following:

    • Millwright practices

    • Process and utility piping

    • Welding and fabrication

    • Industrial plant maintenance

    • Rigging

    • Equipment setting and alignment

    • ASME requirements

  • Experience with estimating, project execution, budgets, cost controls, labor planning, and customer relationships.

  • Ability to lead, develop, communicate with, and motivate employees at multiple levels.

  • Strong organizational and decision-making skills.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

  • A degree in Construction Management or Mechanical Engineering is helpful but not required.

Reporting Structure

This position reports to the Vice President of Operations/General Manager and works closely with operations, finance, human resources, sales, field representatives, and other departments.
