Here’s how to become an indispensable asset at work:


Be a team player

Someone who is willing to pitch in on group projects, who can work well with others, and who sees everyone as working towards the same goals is a winner in your employer’s eyes.

People who can work well with a team are low-maintenance for the employer – they don’t want to have to babysit a person who is difficult to work with.

Since you’re all on the same team, it means you can keep your eye on the bigger picture of nailing your projects instead of squabbling or wasting energy on conflicts with your colleagues.

Always contribute an idea

As you grow your career, it’s not the time to be a wallflower.

If you just sit there in meetings your boss may start to wonder why you’re even there.

Make a point of speaking up at every meeting or brainstorming session, even if it’s just to ask a question.

Show respect for employees around you

Don’t be that person – the one who kisses up to the boss but thinks they’re better than everyone else.

When you’re kind and friendly to everyone from the CEO to the receptionist, it shows real character.

This demonstrates that you’re willing to do anything for the company and you’re not above anyone or anything.

It also means that you’re easy to get along with and people will love having you at the office.

To become a valuable asset to your company, all it takes is being active instead of passive.

Show initiative, participate and demonstrate that you have the company’s best interests in mind.
